Rules & Guidelines

The Spirit of the Thing:

This is about learning, experimenting, and having fun. We're not looking for perfection. We're looking for effort, creativity, and the willingness to try something new.

Competition Rules:

Eligibility & Teams

  • Open to all DI employees
  • Work solo or in pairs (self-select)
  • You must be present (or on zoom) to win prizes

Time Limits

  • You have 45 minutes from "GO!" to final submission
  • Work submitted after time is called cannot be judged
  • The clock is the clock—no extensions

Tools & Resources

  • Recommended: Google AI Studio (free, unlimited access via Google Workspace)
  • Allowed: Any AI coding assistant you prefer (Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.)
  • You can reference documentation, Stack Overflow, past projects—whatever helps
  • Roaming mentors are here to help—ask questions

What You're Building

  • Must be HTML/CSS/JavaScript (runs in a browser)
  • Must be published to a viewable, sharable URL
  • Choose from provided prompts or freestyle your own idea
  • Partially working projects are 100% acceptable

Submission Requirements

  • Submit via the form before time runs out
  • Include: project title, your name, working URL
  • Optionally share: the prompts you used, what you learned
  • You can only submit one project (pairs submit together)

Voting & Judging

  • Everyone gives each project between 1 and 5 stars
  • You can only vote once per project

What's Not Allowed

  • No pre-built projects (must be created during the 45 minutes)
  • No submitting someone else's work as your own
  • No harassing the mentors (kidding—harass away)

Prizes

  • Grand Prize: $100
  • Runner-up: $50
  • Third Place: $25

The Fine Print

  • By submitting, you agree to let us share your project in the gallery
  • Projects may be featured in post-event communications
  • Chris reserves the right to make judgment calls on edge cases
  • Have fun, be kind, ask for help
